La Guajira, the chest of Latin American imagination

Upper Guajira

Desertic, virgin, natural and indigenous.

Middle Guajira

Semiarid, colonial, immigrant with the Caribbean and Islamic mix.

Lower Guajira

Fertile, agricultural, Land of Vallenato, and European airs.

Full of renewable energy resources, La Guajira is the land of opportunity and contrasts.

Cheer up to know the diversity of La Guajira. La Guajira has all the natural resources to be a port and energy power in the Caribbean, however, being a young department and recently brought to modernity, it offers its visitors the opportunity to forget about the citadina routine and return to nature.

The Colombian Guajira is diversity at 100.

Lush natural landscapes, deserts, mountains, rivers, dwarf forests, painted hills along with the country’s highest indigenous density, European immigration, mulatto settlements, and the largest Islamic colony in Colombia.

For this diversity, La Guajira is divided into three (3) areas: high, medium and low Guajira. Each has unique characteristics in its nature, culture and its inhabitants.

La Guajira, festival site

Knowing the diversity of La Guajira, you will realize that it is not only in its resources. Without a doubt, La Guajira is the place of festivals, from Banana Festival to that of Dulce de leche, there is everything. Here we take very much to heart that life is to celebrate, so culturally they maintain very strong traditions in front of the festivities and celebrations. The Fique, the cactus, the sweet milk, the river, or the corn; in La Guajira, there is always a good reason to celebrate.

Some of these festivals receive few visitors, but this does not take away from their magical realism. It really depends on what you’re looking for, and what theme will attract more attention. Celebrations with attractive names that can make a smile out of you.

The festivals presented are subject to availability and not always celebrated every year.
